Kantha Stitching Workshop
In this 3 hour workshop you'll learn about the amazing world of Kantha stitching and you'll make a beautiful scarf for cool summer evenings or to carry you through spring and fall. The art of Kantha hand stitching comes from Eastern India and Bangladesh and was originally used to layer old fabrics (reclaimed saris, and other textiles) into warmer almost insulated textiles. It was used to make shawls, cushions, blankets and pillows. In some cases, you'll see the entire cloth is covered with running stitches. The effect of the hand stitching on the cloth gives it a slightly wrinkled, wavy effect. and you can create patterns with colour or stitch density.
Your Kantha scarf can either be whole cloth, or assembled from smaller pieces. We will provide a middle layer. You'll use both machine sewing to assemble the pieces into your scarf shape, and hand stitching to finish your scarf.
